Co-Hosts

The Forum & EXPO is co-hosted by the Ohio Manufacturers’ Association (OMA) and the Northwest Ohio Regional Economic Development Association (NORED).

The event is part of an economic development effort to advance manufacturing in the region and to increase opportunities for networking for area manufacturers.

The Northwest Ohio Manufacturing Forum & EXPO is being organized by the Supplier Recruitment Program (SRP) committee and produced and managed by Telex Communications, Inc., publisher of Toledo Business Journal and Lake Erie West Manufacturing & Construction News. NORED's Marketing Committee has worked to increase awareness of the event by area manufacturers and increase attendance.

SPONSORS

Sponsors of the 2012 Northwest Ohio Manufacturing Forum & EXPO include the Regional Growth Partnership (RGP), the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority, Gilmore, Jasion & Mahler, Manufacturing Technology Small Business Development Center, BGSU College of Business, The University of Toledo, William Vaughan Company, Huntington Bank, American Electric Power (AEP-Ohio), Sandusky County Economic Development Corporation, and the Wood County Economic Development Commission.

FORUM (speaker series)

The Forum portion of the event will begin with a program session of speakers. The Forum program is titled Technology for Advancing Manufacturing.

The session is designed to provide attending manufacturers an overview on a number of different manufacturing technologies that when implemented will improve a company's competitive position. It is also designed to connect attendee manufacturers with the resources to implement specific advanced technologies into their operations. One criteria used to assess speakers was their involvement with an organization that has the resources to support implementation of their advanced technology.

Speakers include a number of manufacturing technology professionals who have been recognized as international leaders in their area of expertise. Their organizations are located within close proximity to northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan to make it easier for those manufacturer attendees who choose to implement new technology into their business.

The SRP committee has received program suggestions from past attendees to the event. The program session on Technology for Advancing Manufacturing was selected as a result of the input received.

Attendance to the Forum (Speaker Series) requires advanced registration. Lunch will be served to attendees. There is a fee for attendance at the Forum.

There will be a second concurrent session that is scheduled at this year's event. Dr. Janet Hartley and the Supply Chain Management Institute at Bowling Green State University have put significant effort into its organization. The session, Supply Chain Development will involve a panel of corporate supply chain and purchasing leaders in the area that include Cooper Tire Company, Dana Holding Corporation, and Owens Illinois.

This session has been organized with the efforts of the local chapters of both the National Association of Purchasing Managers (NAPM) and APICS (The Association of Operations Management). Members of chapters outside the Region are being invited to attend and certification has been obtained for 2 CEH credit hours for this session.

This session starts at 11:45 a.m.and also includes lunch. It will run concurrent with the first Technology session that ends at 1:15 pm. Attendees at this session will then join the second Technology session that is scheduled from 2:15 pm until 3:15 pm.

Attendance to this session on Supply Chain Development also requires advanced registration. Lunch will be served to attendees. There is a fee for attendance.

The seating is limited and registration will be closed when attendance reaches capacity. (NAPM and APICS members and EXPO Exhibitor personnel are being given priority for attendance.)

EXPO (industrial trade show)

The Forum will be followed by an industrial trade show, or EXPO. Attendees at the EXPO will include manufacturers and others who attend the Forum program session. Area manufacturers and others who wish to only attend the EXPO may do so. There is a small admission fee to the EXPO.

Exhibitors at the EXPO will be area companies providing products and services to manufacturing and industrial companies in the Region.

Buy Lake Erie West

One of the initiatives that has been put in place by the Supplier Recruitment Program committee is called Buy Lake Erie West. It is a program aimed at assisting area industrial companies to replace Suppliers outside the Region with companies located in the area. The SRP committee has set up a large searchable database of industrial products and services provided by companies with operations located in the Region. This has been done in order to assist industrial purchasing professionals. There are over 66,000 categories of industrial products and services in the database, which is being supported by ThomasNet. There are several thousand Suppliers with operations in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan included. If there is no local Supplier for a product that is searched, a list of Suppliers around the country are then provided. The Buy Lake Erie West searchable database can be found at www.toledobiz.com/ buy_lake_erie_west.html.
